Connected properties, aka PropTech, create many new opportunities. Kista and The Kloud are hosting the PropTech Championship 2023 competition, which is organized in collaboration with PropTech Sweden. It's not just the finale that takes place in Kista. The winning solution will be implemented and tested by real users here in what is perhaps Sweden's most innovative district.
Today, it is not only mobile phones, tablets and computers that are "online". More and more devices and sensors are connected in what is usually called the "Internet of things". This creates many interesting new areas of use in our properties - whether it's offices, homes, shopping malls or hospitals. Many also believe that PropTech is a prerequisite for the smart and sustainable cities of the future.
For Johan Thomsson, CEO of Kista Limitless and driving the collaboration in The Kloud, it goes without saying that the next PropTech Championship will be held in Kista:
- PropTech is not only an important future industry. It is also completely dependent on ICT, i.e., the connected technology in which Kista is the world leader. That is why Kista is the perfect place to develop and test new PropTech solutions. Here you have the urban environment, leading real estate and ICT companies, as well as tech research and education at the forefront.
PropTech Championship 2023
The competition is organized by The Kloud in collaboration with the industry organization PropTech Sweden. There are three different competition categories, and the contributions progress step by step to the final in Kista. The winner is selected by a jury with representatives from Ericsson, KTH, Kista Science City and the commercial real estate companies in the spring of 2023.
The winning idea is implemented in Kista
The winning idea will be realized on location in Kista, tested with real users in the urban environment and marketed with both PR as well as in The Kloud's own channels. All three competition categories in the PropTech Championship 2023 aim to contribute to Kista's urban development in different ways:
Worklife community
A digital hub that unites different target groups and properties in Kista, while highlighting what the district can offer and facilitating the users' everyday life.
Flexible use
A solution that in a smooth and secure way enables different businesses to find and use premises in Kista, that otherwise remain empty during evenings and weekends. Contributing to more life and movement in the parts of the district that are perceived to be empty outside of office hours.
Wildcard: Future Kista
All the buildings of Kista – both the new ones being built today and those that have been here for a long time – need new and innovative solutions to face the future. Solutions that contribute to urban development and strengthen Kista's brand as a tech cluster.

What is PropTech used for?
Some examples of what PropTech can do are to effectively control the indoor climate, lighting, and different booking systems in a property. Or make sure that keys, tags, and access cards are no longer needed – instead locks and alarms are managed with a mobile phone, which you always have on you. Using AI, artificial intelligence, the PropTech solutions can also analyze data, train themselves and become even smarter.
